Napoletano seeks basics

23/07/2008 11:41:00 AM
PRESTONS lawyer Nadia Napoletano would like to see a smoother-running and more efficient council in Liverpool.

``I've decided to run for council in this year's election because I'm sick of nothing being done in this area,'' Mrs Napoletano, 35, said.

``Liverpool has been neglected for the past few years and that needs to change.

``It needs to be reinvigorated and if I'm elected to council I will work with local police, TAFEs and community groups to provide activities for young people.

``Kids in this area need a more positive way to use their energy, and council should be there to provide that for them. If they're occupied they won't need to start dabbling in graffiti and petty crime.''

Mrs Napoletano has been married since 2001 and has a 2-year-old son. She works as a lawyer with NSW Police and teaches legal studies at TAFE.

``People often ask me [where I find] the time to run for council, but I always reply that you can always find the time to do things you care about,'' she said.

Having grown up in Smithfield, Mrs Napoletano graduated from Prairiewood High School in 1990.

She went on to further study at university. She graduated from her law course in 1997.

Mrs Napoletano worked in a variety of fields during her studies. She was a sales assistant at Lowes, a pizzeria manager and a settlements and conveyancing clerk in a Sydney legal firm.

``My main aim, if elected to council, will be to restore the community's trust and faith in council and reignite the community's passion for and pride in Liverpool.'' she said.

``I'm interested in working with local businesses and government agencies to develop community programs.

``But I think what's vital, and what has been missing all these years, are the basics: road maintenance, keeping parks clean, taking off graffiti... just the general upkeep of the area.''

I am also standing as a candidate for the south ward and have similiar views to Nadia. Our Group the Liverpool action group have set the scene over the last 4 years and have been seeking the council to clean up the area..Also I have been campaigning for a more prudent use of the Sc.94 funds which have been mainly used for ghost towns.Family values seem to be forgotten by the council and with only one youth club in the Liverpool council area much more has to be done to help our young as they are our future.I would like to see a complete change of culture in the council and make it more accountible to the residents John Anderson Independent south Ward Candidate 98258709 mob.0409368603 Now is the time for residents to stand up and be counted
