LIVERPOOL Council election candidates have suggested a variety of approaches to fixing Liverpool's parking woes when asked last week.
Apart from suggesting building extra levels onto the Warren Serviceway car park, independent candidate Peter Harle said a more costly, but also more effective, proposal could be to build a multi-level underground parking station below Bigge Park, similar to the successful parking station at the Domain.
``Such a proposal would meet the needs of the medial specialists, soon to be increasing in Liverpool due to the hospital redevelopment, and contribute to revitalising the southern end of the CBD,'' Mr Harle said.
``This is an environmental compromise and would provide many parking spaces without detracting from the greenery of the surrounding area.''
Gary Lucas, recently suggested in the Champion that fees collected in parking fines should be used to build a new multi-storey car park.
On the other hand, Wendy Waller, representing all of the Labor team, said it should be up to commercial investors to provide parking spaces in the CBD.
``Council can ensure that all of the new developments opening in the CBD will include adequate parking for tenants and provide extra public parking where possible,'' Ms Waller said.
``We do not support the creation of a ``revenue raising'' environment as a means to fund the development of assets.''
Liverpool Action Group president John Anderson said the council needs to provide adequate parking before development can occur in Liverpool.
He proposed the vacant site behind Liverpool TAFE as an ideal location.
